This isn’t the official press release, but wanted to give you an idea of what I have been up to….
Can’t begin to tell you how many daily questions I get about how to be a DJ. Early in my career, there were many DJs that were always happy to answer a quick question here and there for me. Being touched by their kindness, I feel obligated to pay it forward. After doing some quick research for this book (research = a quick Google search) I couldn’t find any DJ related audio books, NOT EVEN 1. Then out of the books I found, only a handful appeared to be from reputable sources. Since I couldn’t find something to recommend to DJs, I had to make one!
I decided to give out tips and industry secrets that no other DJ would dare to share, complete with a step by step road map on how to “Be A Top DJ in 10 Easy Steps.” Time saving shortcuts based on knowledge compiled directly from the best DJs in the world make this book a must have for the entry level AND seasoned veteran jock.

Now that I’m a a point in my life that I can afford to try new and innovative things, I’m making an announcement about a pivotal career move in the next few days. However, In order to get to the future you must abandon the past. One step is to say goodbye and remove all of the previous mix CDs that I have done from the marketplace.
Originally each title sold in stores for $20 each. As a thank you for years of support we are offering my ENTIRE collection of over 27 hours of mixes, every mix CD I released as DJ Smurf and Dan Morrell for IMMEDIATE DOWNLOAD at BARGAIN PRICE of $27, basically $1 for each hour (50% OFF OF THE ONLINE PRICE). The collection, available through Memorial Day at 11:59pm CST, will no longer be sold in stores or online.
I’ve been talking about making a big announcement this week and am still on schedule. I have also been hinting of other exciting news, as luck would have it… this one came even earlier than expected!
Here is the video from, who producer Soundmaster T and I feel, will be the next female act to make out of Chicago. (more…)

Today marks the 4th anniversary of the day my Dad lost his battle with cancer, and the day I began my battle with accepting the outcome. Up until that point, I had not had to deal with the issue of death. It almost seemed like something that happens to other people, the fact is it happens to all of us.
Going through all of the expected stages of grief, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, I have learned a lot about myself. There was a period of time (most likely the anger stage) that I felt the world owed me something and so I went on a streak of reckless decision making. Fortunately, none of the repercussions we enough to break me.
The depression stage is really a motherfucker, but thanks to many hours logged in at the 24hour health club, a shit load of green tea, and my top secret, fish oil pills, that wasn’t enough to break me either. As I made my rounds through each stage, I picked up countless life lessons and achieved amazing levels of self-discovery (not that kind, ya perv!), but I couldn’t figure out “acceptance.” (more…)
As one of the first DJs to give records a break and test out CDs for my DJ sets, being one of the early adapters on Serato Scratch Live, to even being the first DJ to launch the one man dj/ guitarist set, it’s obvious that I am a big fan of technology (yet I waited until this year before buying a mac, go figure!).
But, before I bore us both with reminiscing about the past, I’m really excited to talk about the future. I’m constantly finding myself amazed by the new tools introduced to the market, performing functions that were impossible as recent as a few months prior. Thanks to some big advances in technology, I intend on making a big announcement this week that will add a new element to my career and hopefully inspire DJs through out the world!
While we are prepping my new project privately, I want to help DJs, artists, and anyone else interested in saving hours of time. Starting with the most popular item on my site, my mixes page, let’s take a look at how the magic happens. After I do my weekly radio mixes for B96, I upload it to a server the station gets a copy and so does my podcast feed. (more…)

The best response I have EVER gotten over one mix in my career. Listen for yourself.
